Game of the week 05/02: 6U Rockies vs 6U Pirates
On the first Saturday that truly felt like spring, the 6U Rockies and Pirates put on an offensive showcase for the ages. The Rockies Kody Childers singled to get things rolling from the leadoff spot, while Siddharth Karnati singled home the first RBI of the game. Teammates Braylen Bishop, Calvin Coffman, and Cayden Goulette followed suit for an early 4-0 lead. Jonah Miller finished the barrage adding 4 more while notching his first HR of the season. Not to be outdone, The Pirates got hot right off the bat in the b-1st as Bryce Ledford, Dylan Dotta, and Addison Kain singled to load the bases. While Jackson Hardnock (a baseball name if ever there was one) got the Pirates on the board with his RBI single those pesky Pirates continued to climb back into the game with RBI singles by Andrew Shin, Luke Scalzi, and Isabella Bigolow. Jorge Ivan Castaneda sent everyone home with his inning-ending grand slam, knotting the score at 10. The Rockies hit parade started right back up in the t-2nd, with Lucas Karwoski-Childers, Mason Sebold, and Siddharth Karnati singling to load the bases. Then the RBI singles flowed as ‘CJ’ Jansson, Dylan Katz, and Jonah Miller helped build the lead to 6, before Kody Childers smashed his monster blast, clearing the bases for another Rockies 10-run lead. The Pirates climbed right back into the game with RBI singles by the bottom half of the order, before Castaneda delivered another grand salami to tie the game at 20. The Rockies went to the well one last time as Coffman, Goulette, and Jansson helped build a 3-runlead. Lucas Karwoski-Childers delivered the big knock with the bases clearing grand slam and seemingly insurmountable lead. However, The Pirates would not lie down for defeat in the last half inning. Hardnock began the comeback effort with his third RBI single, followed by Shin, Scalzi, and Bigolow each collecting their third RBI singles of the game. Lexi Petrieand Landon Tanzi followed suit padding their stat lines and pulling the opposition within reach. Castaneda stayed hotter than a summer BBQ, again delivering the game tying HR to knot things up at 30. After the game, Jorge Ivan commented that he should probably retire, because he did not know how he could ever top this 12-RBI performance.
